Port Angeles
Previous | Next
You'll never confuse Port Angeles with its genteel neighbor Port Townsend.
While Port Townsend has deliberately cultivated its fin-de-siecle charm in the name of tourism, it doesn't look like much has changed in Port Angeles since the '50s. There's not a lot of concession made for tourists, and unless you're in the market for hearing aids, hardware or adult magazines, you won't find many shops worth visiting.
What Port Angleles does offer is location. It's a great jumping-off point for trips to Olympic National Park and for ferry rides to Victoria. Anti-tent? You'll find a number of nice places to
spend the night and some good restaurants to fill your stomach after a long day hiking in the park. Try the tasty homemade French pastries at Bonny's Bakery. For a full meal, head to Thai Pepper near the water, or Bella Italia for authentic Italian.
If you've got extra time, follow the six-mile Waterfront Trail and get a great view of the water and mountains. Make the short trip out of the city's center to the
Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, where exhibits from Northwest artists compete with panoramic windows showcasing the city and water. A short drive away is the town of Sequim, and the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge.
