Remarks: Volunteers are an important part of the programming at Carkeek Park. They educate the public and assist the staff with education and many parks projects. Volunteers and neighbors worked for years to bring salmon back into Pipers Creek in Carkeek Park. The "original" Carkeek Park was on Pontiac Bay on Lake Washington from 1918 to 1926. It was the gift of Mr. and Mrs. Morgan J Carkeek. That park eventually became a naval air station. Carkeek offered to donate 25000 dollars toward the purchase of another park. The new park was dedicated on Aug. 24, 1929.
