Trails near Seattle: Galbraith
Intro to mountain biking | More cycling
Distance: Varies
Elevation: 1500 feet +
Level of difficulty: Extremely challenging
Comments: Galbraith is actually located 65 miles from Seattle. This is one of the most diverse rides in the entire Northwest. The ride up Galbraith is very difficult but once you get to the top there is a great view of Bellingham Bay, Lake Whatcom, and the San Juan Islands. The journey down Galbraith is the most exciting part of the ride. It has a difficult and narrow singletrack, powerline slaloms and steep roads that go for miles in different directions. You need to be in great shape to ride these trails effectively.
Directions: From Seattle take I-5 north 65 miles to exit #253 the Lakeway exit. When you get off this exit turn right and go 1 block to a stoplight and then turn left on Lakeway. Follow this road until you turn left at the third stoplight (this stoplight is at a Y intersection) into the second entrance of Whatcom Falls Park. Parking is available near the park entrance.
