Seattle Center
Seattle Center calendar
While Seattle grows around us at an alarming rate, one thing remains constant: Seattle Center. As Belltown spreads further north, this local institution finds itself increasingly in the center of the action, still the center of Seattle as it was over 40 years ago.
Constructed for the 1962 World's Fair on 74 acres of what is now some of Seattle's most prime real estate, Seattle Center was a symbol of the future beyond 2000. Ironically, today parts of it -- like the Space Needle -- are historical monuments.
Key Attractions
The Seattle Center was designed with seven key attractions in mind: the Seattle Center Opera House (now being rennovated and renamed), Flag Pavillion, International Fountain, Seattle Center House, Pacific Science Center, Monorail and, of course, the Space Needle.
1995 saw the renovation of Key Arena, home of many of Seattle's sports teams. In 2000 came the addition of the Northwest shrine of music worship, the
Experience Music Project.
The Center also houses a variety of other facilities and organizations.
