Historical Background
There are two accounts of how Paradise Point came to be named:
The Indians of the area used to camp along the east of the Lewis River, where the park is now located, and called it Paradise Point.
Another theory is that in the 1920s and 1930s a motorboat club from Portland used to travel down the Columbia River then up the east fork of the Lewis River and camped at a place on the north shore of the river called Kaner Rock, and they named it Paradise Point. Because of the beauty and peacefulness of the area, it was paradise to them. Kaner Rock is the rock formation on which the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 were built.
