Maryhill state park

Location

In Klickitat County, 12 miles south of Goldendale on State Route 14.

Acreage

98.44 acres, 4,700 square feet of waterfront footage.

Acquired

Acquired by lease from the Corps of Engineers in September 1972 at no cost.

Historical Background

The wife of Sam Hill, son-in-law of railroad tycoon James Hill, was named Mary. Sam built a "castle" home on a hill near the park for his wife; thus the name Maryhill. Sam made an unsuccessful attempt at establishing a colony of Belgian Quakers preceding World War II. Sam's home (three miles from the park), as well as a full scale model of Stonehenge (one mile from the park), are now open to the public.

Facilities

50 campsites with hookups, 20 standard campsites, a group camp, 50 picnic sites, 3 non-vehicle sites, 3 comfort stations, 2 kitchen shelters, contact station, shop, trailer dump, boat launch, unguarded swimming beach, bathhouse, and 2 residences.

Activities

Boating, camping, fishing, hiking, picnicking, swimming, water skiing and wind surfing.
