Eagle Island Lake state park

Location

Lies between Anderson and McNeil Islands in Pierce County.

Acreage

Ten acres with 2,600 feet of saltwater shoreline on Balch and Pitt Passages.

Acquired

Eagle Island State Park was acquired via a 20-year lease from the Bureau of Land Management in 1962. The Commission paid a $10 per year rental fee on the land and now intends to apply for ownership.

Historical Background

The island was probably named by the Wilkes Expedition (which also named Anderson Island) for a member of the party, Harry Eagle.
