Historical Background
Doug's Beach has become increasingly popular to windsurfers in the Columbia Gorge. The 1987-89 State Parks operating budget contained $50,000 for operations and for safety and sanitary improvements, including; (1) widening highway shoulder to provide safer parking, (2) installing chainlink fencing parallel to railroad tracks, (3) constructing railroad crossing, and (4) providing portable toilets. The 1989-91 capital budget contains $120,000 for additional safety improvements and land lease or acquisition. Long term improvements such as construction of on-site parking and permanent sanitation facilities are dependant upon results of cultural resource assessments and resolutions of possible Indian fishing conflicts. Facilities
Portable toilets April 1 - October 30.
Activities
Windsurfing, fishing.
