This park was acquired in five parcels between 1955 and 1975 for $13,309.

Historical
A plaque in the park honors Mr. Ralph Van Slyke who, with the most common garden tools, took it upon himself to cut a park in the valley above Chief Joseph Dam in the early 1960s. Mr. Van Slyke was a retired Corps of Engineers employee.

The park was named for the town of Bridgeport, which, from 1881 to 1889, was known as Westfield. In 1889, Mr. J. Covert came west from Bridgeport, Connecticut to survey a railroad route from Coulee City to Westfield. On his survey, Mr. Covert renamed the town site Bridgeport, in honor of his home town. This park was created as part of a cooperative agreement with the Corps of Engineers.

Facilities
10 standard campsites, 20 hookup sites, 4 walk-in standard sites, 8 group campsites (capacity, 75 people), 20 picnic sites, one bath house, 2 comfort stations, trailer dump, boat launch and docks, Ranger residence, shop, storage building, and a trail to observation point about 1/4 mile. The Commission has a concession agreement with the Lake Woods Golf Club, Inc., for the operation of a golf course, club house, and sale of food. There is currently a temporary extension of the agreement pending renewal of a property lease with Corps of Engineers.

Picnicking, camping, swimming, play area activities, sightseeing, boating, fishing and water skiing.
